Reflecting on 2017

December 29, 2017 by Gary Heise

Like most people, we enjoy looking back over the year as it winds down to celebrate achievements. It’s a great opportunity to reflect on the stories that drive what we do as a profession every day. For us, it’s all about partnering with sports organizations and corporate brands to capitalize on the passion that surrounds sports. And to hopefully make a positive impact in people’s lives along the way.

As we took a moment to look back at 2017 as a team, we came up with a top 10 list of highlights that we were able to celebrate and share with our clients. Check them out in chronological order:

10. Passing the torch.
As the new year began, we celebrated the career of Les Steckel, President/CEO of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, whom we’d had the pleasure of working with for 12 years through events and ministry projects. We also welcomed new President/CEO Shane Williamson, whom we already can tell will build a fantastic legacy at the helm for FCA.

9. A legend takes the stage.
In February, we welcomed legendary sportscaster Al Michaels to Kansas City to receive the Lamar Hunt Award for Professional Football at the annual 101 Awards. We never wanted his segment to end and could have listened to his stories for hours.

8. Fun at the Final Four.
We had the privilege of starting a new relationship this year with Athletes in Action, producing the Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast at the Final Four. The atmosphere at the Final Four is always amazing, but when you combine it with a great organization like AIA, a crowd of good-hearted college basketball fans and a program filled with stars like Steve and Bryce Alford, it gets even better.

7. The voice himself.
Clark Kellogg is one of our favorite sports personalities. Not only is he incredibly professional and easy to work with; he’s also just a fantastic human being. We enjoyed working with Clark this April when he emceed the annual Champions of Hope Weekend for Samaritan’s Feet.

6. Hall of Fame at the Hall of Game.
Another of our favorite organizations in the Kansas City area is the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and it’s our privilege to work with them each summer on the Hall of Game inductions. This year, four baseball icons took their place in the Hall, including Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Perez.

5. Making waves.
In a brand new adventure for Premier, we teamed up with 2016 national and world champion super boat race team Wake Effects Racing, which brought us into an exciting new world. In the short time we’ve been working together, we already know we’re super boat fans for life, and we look forward to the future with this high-octane client!

4. Coaches with Character
As part of our partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, we help carry out the Blue KC Coaches with Character program. The program, hosted in conjunction with Dayton Moore’s C You in the Major Leagues Foundation, is part of Blue KC’s Hometown Heroes series that highlights outstanding citizens of Kansas City and recognizes them through Blue KC’s relationships with the KC pro sports teams. The Blue KC Coaches with Character from 2017 were recognized along with Dayton on field at Kauffman Stadium in September.

3. Fighting cancer through teamwork.

In October, our team worked with The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) for an amazing partnership with ESPN and the V Foundation. It included a visit from the ESPN’s Monday Night Football crew to the KU Cancer Center. The exposure helped TUKHS increase awareness for its nationally-renowned cancer research and advancement in treatment.

2. College basketball royalty.
Every November, we work with the National Association of Basketball Coaches to produce the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame induction celebration. This year’s class was one of the best, featuring basketball legends Tim Duncan, John Stockton and six other all-time greats.
